Mrs. Mabry’s 5th graders put on their scientist hats today as they engaged all of their senses to investigate solutions. They started by observing to describe the color, smelling the mixture to predict the flavor, and then taste-testing. After repeating the process with Solution B, they identified the correct mixture and explored the science of concentrations: learning that adding more solute (Kool-Aid powder) makes a solution more concentrated, while adding more solvent (water) makes it less concentrated. These 5th graders are officially concentration pros!

Fall Break Reminder! Friendly reminder to our Mustang family: Strayhorn Elementary School will be closed for Fall Break from October 5–9. Enjoy a fun, safe, and restful break with family and friends! We can't wait to welcome our students back to campus on Monday, October 12. Have a wonderful break, Mustangs!

Happy National Custodian Appreciation Day to two of the absolute best on campus! 💙🐴

If you’ve spent any time around our school, chances are you’ve seen Mr. Johnny on the move! Covering every building all day, every day, he is the definition of a true Mustang. Whether he’s keeping our facilities sparkling, cheering on our teams at games, or keeping a watchful eye out to keep our students safe as they move around campus, Mr. Johnny does it all with a smile. The highlight of many students' day is catching him in the hallway for a high-five! 🖐️✨

A huge shoutout also goes to Mr. Derunta, who keeps our Kindergarten building running smoothly and safely! Our littlest Mustangs adore seeing him every day, and his presence brings so much joy to their classrooms.

Thank you, Mr. Johnny and Mr. Derunta, for your hard work, care, and Mustang pride. We appreciate you today and every day! 💙👏

Awesome job to these students! Hard work on their iReady learning paths earned them a well-deserved lunch outside reward! ☀️🥪🎉

Celebration time in Mrs. Moyer’s room! 🎉 Token Reward #1 is officially in the books!

Huge shoutout to Mrs. Moyer’s class for demonstrating fantastic behavior and catching the eye of teachers across the school to earn their tokens. Their hard work and teamwork are paying off with every teacher’s favorite prize: Extra Recess!

Keep setting the bar high, everyone! What reward will they earn next? 🤔

Spills, mud, standard recess adventures, and unexpected accidents happen every day! Our school nurse is in need of spare clothing donations to make sure every student can get back to class comfortable, clean, and dry.

5th Grade Welcomes Fall!
Our 5th graders celebrated the arrival of Autumn this week! Students enjoyed seasonal cookies and made the most of the crisp, cooler weather during an extra outdoor recess this morning. It was a wonderful way to welcome the new season together!

🧪 Visualizing chemistry! Mrs. Mabry's 5th graders mixed calcium chloride and baking soda to witness a chemical change. Bubbles formed, and heat was released a classic exothermic reaction! 🔥🥼

Kona Ice is coming to the school on Monday the 28th. Flyers with ordering details will be sent home soon!
